The f4 Photographic Group started meeting as part of a local Photography A-Level evening class in 1984, but moved on to hold our own meetings in 1992, when the various photography exams had been achieved. We originally met in Beverley, East Yorkshire, at the Rose & Crown, but now meet in Willerby, as it is more central to the membership.

We quickly became known as a highly competitive slide group, within both the PAGB Yorkshire Photographic Union; and our more local Yorkshire Coastal Photographic Group – an affiliation of eight local clubs and societies.

The club has been consistently in the top 5 places in the YPU Jordan Trophy, winning it twice; and is also a regular winner of the YCPG Brigg Trophy.

Over the last couple of years, the membership has also embraced digital photography, which has broadened our own interests, as well as our inter-club meetings - and led to this website. Our photo competitions are open to members taking digital images, both projected and printed.

We meet every week of the year, on each Thursday evening at 7.45 pm, upstairs in the Club House of Springhead Park Golf Course, down Willerby Road, Hull. However, we also meet up with other local clubs, and during the summer months our meetings move outdoors, for photography at suitable local venues - until light fades and thirsts sharpen.

The club adopts a strong social style, with outings for meals as well as for photography. These photo outings can extend from days or weekends to the Dales or Lake District as well as to Photography lectures. There is also a popular annual expedition, which can be four nights away to venues like Kerry or Dingle in Eire, or to Scotland’s Western Isles like Skye or Lewis; as well as to Paris or Brittany.
